A Night of Food and Fun

Our First of the year get-together

Hello, all! I hope your holidays were delightful and full of love and joy! (Hopefully you even got some rest and relaxation in there somewhere.)

Our next meeting will be:

February 3rd, 2007
6pm until ???
@ St. Alban's

Activities:
Potluck dinner
Games (of the board variety)
A Blogger tutorial :-) ha!

Please either comment on this blog with an RSVP and what you plan on bringing to the potluck OR e-mail me with your RSVP and what you plan on bringing to the potluck and I will post it on the blog for you. :-) Be sure to look at what others are bringing. We don't want 10 salads and no main courses. :-) If you don't know exactly what you want to bring yet, just say "vegetable" or "salad". You don't have to say exactly. We just need a general idea. Also, we'll need one or two people to be in charge of bringing drinks. If everyone can respond (either on the blog or to me in e-mail) before January 26th, I will put up a post with the number of people coming (so you'll know how BIG of a dish to make) and what everyone is bringing so everyone can plan.

Take care!

A Christmas Gift to you all

I decided that our blog needed a Christmas gift to us all -- a gift to bring joy to our lives! Since we are all from at least the same generation (or near it), I hope that this will bring back as many memories for all of you as it does for me! (Be sure you watch the acting out -- it helps you remember the song.)

Have a wonderful Christmas all! Be Blessed!

December meeting Revised!!!

Okay, so I got enough feedback about the Sunday after church idea to post a blog on it so that everyone can ready everyone else's responses rather than me having to juggle 25 e-mail responses.

It seems that a Sunday after church seems to be the best way to get us all together during the crazy month that is December. Heather suggested December 17th since the semester will be over. How does that look for everyone? When Natalie suggested this and I passed it on, I was thinking after morning service (so going to lunch), but Heather brings up a good point that we could go after evening church.

So here's what your reply should include:

1.) Does the 17th work for you?
2.) Would you prefer after 10:30am service or 6pm service?

Thanks, guys!
Leslie

Ideas to Revisit and Discuss

To revisit a few things previously mentioned + encourage discussions to flow...

Varied Fellowship

During our initial meeting, some ideas tossed about included having a game night one month and an ice cream (or frozen yogurt) outing another. If each person contributes 1 fun, different idea, we could have something novel to look forward to each month. That said, would it be helpful to pass around an "idea sheet" at our January gathering?

Organic Fellowship

We all agree that we want to keep things "low key" and "laid back" but we are young, fabulous, and energetic...how can we pull it all off, i.e., cook, eat, visit, maybe go out and have evening prayer, and wind down considerably from our busy weeks?

Well, let's say, for instance, we center our gathering upon our coming together for evening prayer once a month. Then after evening prayer, we can vary our fellowship according to a rotation that includes ideas from everyone to keep it new and novel.

Here are some ideas of what we could do after evening prayer:

  • Play a round of interactive board games while eating some take-out (we pot luck it or BYOTO - bring your own take out!).
  • Walk down to the Chimes for a burger and fries (whatever), and then to Highland Coffees for dessert.
  • Bicycle [Critical Mass, St. Alban's Style!] from LSU to downtown via the new lighted levee path and grab a bite and peruse the downtown venues - theatre, art gallery, etc.
  • Go out for ice cream and chat.
What's your favorite outing or pastime?

What do you think?

Just think. Its Friday night, the week was full, and you just wanna grab some grub, drink a glass of wine, maybe have a coffee, or a treat afterwards, and just hang out.

What about food? Simple, low key?

Pot luck doesn't have to mean work. Somebody picks up a French bread...another, a bottle of wine ...she brings an apple pie and a quart of ice cream...he brings a rotisserie chicken...I'll thaw a bag of french cut green beans and toss with balsalmic vinaigrette and top with roasted almonds...you assemble a salad.

BYOTO...might be take out from DeAngelo's, or, maybe its a good excuse for you to indulge your secret, guilty pleasure, you know 'Canes'.

Dates for January

Hello all,

Laurie Morris, our chapel administrator, sends me calendar events on a regular basis. So far, the following Fridays in January are available for us to meet:

Fri 5
Fri 12
Fri 19 - Not Available: Wedding Rehearsal for Erica Swensen
Fri 26

Please send your availability ASAP so that I can let Laurie know in advance, so to avoid scheduling conflicts. Thanks.

Idea for January

Would others enjoy including Evening Prayer and/or Compline (Night Prayer) as part of our monthly gatherings? I do not mind leading prayer for our first meeting. We can alternate monthly.

Our Next Meeting

Hello again, all! Due to all of the holiday madness in November and December, we thought maybe we would meet one time in early December to count for both months and then pick back up on a monthly basis in January.

Remy thought maybe we could get together and she could teach us how to roll sushi (including vegetarian for those of us that don't like the fish).

Please chime-in on this idea AND consider the following dates:

December 2
December 9
December 15
December 16

Do any of these work for everyone (or the majority)? Let me know what you absolutely CAN'T do and which would be BEST for you. (All you have to do is leavea comment.)

Take care!

Here's the test!!

Okay, folks!!! We made a deal Friday night -- you start checking the blog and I'll stop inundating you with e-mails (and stop losing my mind trying to keep-up with everyone through 3 different types of communication). :-)

Here's the test! Please comment in reply to THIS blog simply saying that you have read it and know how to comment. If you have a problem commenting, you can e-mail me at my yahoo address (lesbowers1221@yahoo.com) and I will try to walk you through it!

Friday night was SO MUCH FUN!!! It was so exciting to have such a great turn-out and hear so much chatter and laughter!

Glad to see you all!
